About This Data
Surname estimates are calculated using the Bayesian Improved Surname Geocoding (BISG) method, combining national surname frequency data from the US Census Bureau (2010) with state-level demographic composition from the 2020 Census. This widely-used research methodology provides reliable estimates of surname prevalence at the state level.
